What are collections?

Collections are curated groups of Lyfta content centred around specific themes, events, topics and values.

They are designed to support you in mapping Lyfta content to your curriculum and can be found at the top of the search screen.

The Power of community: building your own collections

Building on the success of Lyfta collections, we’re excited to announce a new tool on the teacher platform: community-created collections.

Now, you can:

  • Build your own collection: Organise Lyfta resources in a way that works for you, and share your brilliance with the world. Publish your collections for other educators to access and be inspired by.

  • Discover hidden gems: Explore and borrow collections created by educators like you in the global Lyfta community. Find inspiration for your next lesson or borrow entire sets of resources to jumpstart your planning.

  • Favourites and subscriptions: Keep valuable collections from fellow educators close at hand for easy access.

  • Remix & refine: Found a collection you like but want to make it your own? Duplicate it! You can edit the collection by adding, removing, or rearranging resources, renaming it, and adding teacher notes, subjects, age ranges, and more.

Creating a collection

This step-by-step guide will walk you through creating your own Lyfta collections, publishing them for others to access, sharing them with the community, duplicating and customising existing collections, and editing your creations.

There are two ways to create a collection.

Creating a collection from search

  • Navigate to the search page within the Lyfta teacher platform.

  • Search for the specific storyworlds, articles, films, lesson plans, or other resources you want to include in your collection.

  • Click the “Add” button located on the content card of the resource you’ve selected

  • A modal will appear, prompting you to add the resource to an existing collection or create a new one.

  • Choose “Create new Collection” and give your collection a name. You can always change the name later.

  • You’ll be redirected to the collection’s edit page. Add at least five pieces of content to create a complete publishable collection and fill in the required fields, such as title and description.

  • Once satisfied with your collection, click “Publish” to make it available to other educators on the search page.

  • If you’re not ready to publish, save it as a draft and continue working on it later.

  • After publishing, share your collection with the Lyfta community! Use social media or email to spread the word about your valuable resource.

Remember: Creating and sharing collections contributes to a collaborative learning environment and helping other educators find inspiring, high-quality ideas for their following lessons.

Creating a collection from favourites

  • Navigate to your Favourites page within the Lyfta teacher platform. You’ll find a list of collections you’ve subscribed to, duplicated, drafted, and/or published.

  • At the top of the collections list, click the “Add Collection” button.

  • You’ll be directed to the collection’s edit/builder page. Follow the steps outlined above to add content, fill in required fields, and customise your collection so it's ready to be published and shared with a world of educators like you.


Editing a collection as a draft or published

Whether you’re looking to finalise an unfinished collection or make changes to a published one, you can easily edit it.

  • Navigate to your Favourites page and locate the specific collection you want to edit.

  • Click the “View and Edit” button on the collection card.

  • You’ll now be in the collection editor, where you can:

    • Edit the collection’s name

    • Add or remove resources

    • Edit the collection name, description, keywords, subjects, key stages and age ranges.

    • Update teacher notes.

Remember: If your collection was already published and you’re making changes, re-publish it after updating. This will ensure that the latest version of your collection is visible to others.


Duplicating an existing collection

Found a collection you love? Duplicate it and customise it to match your teaching style and curriculum.

  • Search for the collection you want to duplicate using the Lyfta search page.

  • Click on the collection to go to its preview page.

  • Click the duplicate button.

  • You’ll be directed to the collection editor, where you can:

    • Change the collection’s name

    • Add, remove, or rearrange resources

    • Edit the description, keywords, subjects, key stages, and age ranges

    • Update teacher notes

  • Once satisfied with your changes, click “Publish” to make the collection available to others or “Save” to continue working on it later.

  • You’ll find your duplicated collection in your Favourites.

You can also duplicate a collection from your Favourites page.

  • From the list of collections in Favourites, locate the collection you'd like to duplicate.

  • Click on the three dots at the top of the card and proceed to duplicate the collection.

Publishing a collection

  • Once you’re happy with your collection and have completed all the required fields (including adding at least 5 content items), you’re ready to publish.

  • Click the “Publish” button: This will open a modal window.

  • Review Terms and Conditions: Read through and agree to the terms and conditions to ensure that your collection adheres to our guidelines and helps maintain a safe learning environment. You can read the T&Cs below in FAQs: https://help.lyfta.com/en/articles/9522143-collections#h_928a408b0c

  • Once you’ve accepted the terms, your collection will be published and visible to other educators via search.


FAQs

What’s the difference between a Lyfta collection and a community-created collection?

  • Lyfta collections: These are curated by our team of experts internally at Lyfta and are designed to align with specific themes, events, or topics. They are pre-made and ready to use.

  • Community-created collections: These collections are curated by educators like you who use Lyfta worldwide. They offer a diverse range of perspectives and resources.

How can I tell if a collection is Lyfta-created or community-created?

  • Information icon: Community-created collections have an orange information icon on their preview pages.

  • Number ID: Community-created collections have a unique, automatically generated number. This ensures that all collections from community educators are unique.

  • Creator and publication date: Below a collection’s name, you’ll find the creator’s name and publication date on the preview page.

How can I ensure that a community-created collection is of quality and appropriate?

We know you may have concerns about using community-created collections. Here’s how we ensure quality and appropriate content:

  • Articles and multimedia: For other content, such as articles, we use “traffic lights” to provide trigger warnings if they deal with sensitive topics. This allows you to make informed decisions about their suitability for your classroom.

These measures work together to uphold the high standards of our Lyfta community. Remember, community-created collections offer a wealth of diverse perspectives, and with these safeguards in place, you can confidently explore and utilise them in your classroom.

Can I see how many people have viewed or subscribed to my collection?

  • View counts: Every content, including those within your collections, has a view count. You can find this on the content cards in search results or on the content preview pages.

  • Favourites: The view count also applies to the number of teachers favouriting specific content within your collection.

  • Collection views: The preview pages of each collection show how many teachers have viewed them.

  • Collection subscriptions: The preview page also shows the number of teachers subscribed to your collection.

What do Lyfta’s community guidelines specify?

These community guidelines will be on the modal just before you publish a collection, and you must read and accept them before publication.

Welcome to the Lyfta community. By engaging with our community, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute to an inclusive and inspiring environment for everyone.

1. Content Creation & Sharing

Quality & Accuracy

Content should be factually accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with relevant educational standards and learning objectives. The content you share should provide value and insight to fellow educators.

Appropriateness

All content must suit the intended audience and be free from offensive, discriminatory, or harmful language and imagery. We must respect the diversity of our community by choosing words and content that foster inclusivity and understanding. You can find BBFC ratings for every Lyfta film on the film's preview page, and also filter for BBFC ratings in search. Furthermore, all Lyfta-created lesson plans are tagged with the key stages they are intended to be used with.

Originality & Attribution

If you include external resources or inspirations in your content, ensure you have the right to use them and provide appropriate attribution. Integrity in creation and sharing is crucial to maintaining trust within our community. Please ensure you always abide by relevant copyright laws. By publishing your creation publicly, you grant Lyfta the right to display and promote your work to other users on the platform. Lyfta retains ownership of any content you contribute to the collection.

2. Behaviour & Interaction

Respect & Inclusivity

Treat all community members with respect, kindness, and dignity, valuing the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences within the community. Discrimination, harassment, and hateful behaviour will not be tolerated.

Constructive Engagement

Participate in discussions and interactions constructively. Offer kind feedback, share ideas, and ask questions in a manner that encourages positive dialogue and mutual learning. Avoid behaviours that disrupt the community's harmony and learning atmosphere.

Privacy & Safety

Respect the privacy and personal information of others. Do not share confidential or private information without explicit consent. Engage in practices that ensure the community's and its members' safety and security. All interactions outside of the Lyfta platform should also adhere to the rules and guidelines of that platform.

3. Compliance & Enforcement

Adherence to Guidelines

By participating in the Lyfta community, you agree to adhere to these guidelines. Lyfta reserves the right to moderate content and interactions, including removing content or suspending accounts that violate these principles.

Reporting & Support

If you encounter content or behaviour that violates these guidelines, please report it to the Lyfta team. We are committed to maintaining a supportive environment and will take appropriate action to address issues. To do this, either use the 'report content' links or notify us via the blue chat box or by email: info@lyfta.com.

How can I find collections other educators from the Lyfta community have created?

The search function on the teacher app allows you to find all collections, including those created by other educators in the global Lyfta community. To see all collections, simply click “show all collections” or apply the “Collections” filter.

How can I save the collection I created?

Lyfta platform automatically saves your collections, so you don’t need to save them manually.
