1. Launch a Lyfta lesson from the Lesson Outline
First you'll need to navigate to the lesson you want to teach. You may have been given a direct link to the lesson, or have discovered it yourself via search (see our guide for how to use search, if you need it)
Once you're there, click on 'Teach Lesson' on the right-hand side to launch the lesson and quest tracker on the Lyfta globe... (see screenshot below)
... a new tab will open and invite you to choose a class (if you have a specific class set up already to teach to) or go straight into the lesson by clicking 'Teach now' - choose this if you are teaching from the front of the classroom (see screenshot below).
2. Present the Lyfta globe in front of your class đ
The globe will open đ centered on the story location. In The Age of AI lesson, for example, it drops a marker on San Francisco, where students will meet computer scientist Ilya. The lesson outline is open in the quest tracker on the right-hand side (see screenshot below). Click the item that jiggles! In the first instance this is usually labelled 'Let's go!' or 'Let's recap' if the lesson is part of a course or sequence.
As you go through the lesson you'll see some controls for the globe on the right-hand side (see screenshot below) which you can use whenever you like, or as directed by the quest tracker cards.
The '⤢' icon hides the browser chrome so the globe fills every pixel of the classroom display.
Tap the đ icon if you need silence for discussion or subtitles only.
Use the globe icon to start or stop automatic rotationâhandy when you want the map perfectly still while you explain.
The octopus re-opens the lesson-plan outline on the right-hand side.
3. Teach with Lyftaâs Quest Tracker đ
Every Lyfta lesson is broken into bite-sized tasks. The Quest Tracker (the vertical panel on the right) is your running order:
Tracker element | What it does |
Progress bar | Shows % of lesson completed at a glance. |
Task cards | Grey = still locked, purple = current task, tick â = done. Each card lists an estimated time so you can pace your session. |
Activity cards | Some tasks open discussion prompts, questions or short quotes - see screenshot below (e.g. an Attenborough quote on caring for the planet. These are often perfect for Think-Pair-Share moments.) |
Hide / show | Click the X in the top-right of any card to remove distractions; click the red Tracker icon to bring the list back. |
Tips for new teachers
Unlock as you go â completing one task instantly unlocks the next, keeping students focused on the current step.
Use the quotes â many tasks start with an attention-grabbing quote. Pause for a moment of reflection or ask, âWhat do you care about, and why?â
Celebrate completion â finishing the final task triggers an on-screen celebration (confetti and a trophy). Itâs a simple but effective motivator for students.
Post-lesson wrap-up â after clicking End lesson, youâre returned to the teacher view where you can download follow-up resources or set the class another quest.
4 Ending a Lyfta lesson â
Finish the final task
Once the last activity card is completed, Lyfta automatically displays a celebration screenâconfetti, a trophy and a message that the quest is complete.
Click Close to dismiss the celebration and return to the teacher interface.
Exit âstudent viewâ
Close down the tab you are on, to return to the teacher interface where you will see the lesson outline page.
Confirm youâre done
A red End lesson button appears under the section list. Click it to mark the session as finished for that class.
Tip: Ending the lesson properly ensures student progress is logged and resets the Quest Tracker to 0 % for the next class.
